Subjects covered: Covers both the
social and medical aspects of sight problems. Scope includes the following
aspects of sight loss: General, Medical, Administrative,
Individual and social, Education, Employment, Social
and general rehabilitation, Literature for blind
people, Special groups including deafblind people,
blind people with learning disabilities, multiply
disabled blind people, older blind people, partially
sighted people, war-blinded people.
Access: annual membership £32.50
providing full borrowing rights.
Current Awareness Service £27.50 ( UK ), £37.50 ( Europe ), £42.50 (ROW)
Annual Plus membership £47.50 combining both services
Student membership £32.50 combining both services
Corporate membership £32.50 each member, combining both services minimum of five staff)
Non-members can also borrow items for 28 days without renewals for charge of £4.00 per item
Opening hours: 09.30-17.00 Monday-Friday; 09. 30-12:00 Saturday
Services: online public access catalogue, 1 photocopier, 5 public access PCs, scanner, printer, braille printer, Microsoft Office software, general internet access for blind and partially sighted users, or sighted users who are researching sight loss, photocopying service, free enquiry service. Adjoining Resource Centre provides free demonstrations, sale and advice on assistive technology, everyday living aids, etc.
Disabled access: Ramped access for wheelchairs. Guiding to/from Kings Cross station available. All public access PCs equipped with screen magnification and speech software & headphones.
